The night side of the Earth with city lights and an aurora, rendered by PocketEarth

POCKETEARTH

The Earth, lit as it is right now.

COMING SOON TO THE MAC APP STORE

PocketEarth is a quiet, living globe for your Mac. The Sun’s position is calculated from your Mac’s clock, so the day–night boundary, the twilight band and the city lights on the night side are where they really are at this moment.

Clouds come from recent satellite imagery, the aurora from NOAA’s space-weather forecast, and the International Space Station, Tiangong and Hubble move along their real orbits. Use it in a window, full screen, or as a live desktop wallpaper behind your icons.

HONEST BY DESIGN

The slow camera orbit is a viewpoint, not a sped-up Earth. Lightning marks model thunderstorm areas, not observed strikes. No account, no tracking, no data collected.

REQUIREMENTS

A Mac with Apple silicon, macOS 26 or later. Brightest on a Liquid Retina XDR display.
