A GREY BAND AT THE TOP OF THE WALLPAPER

macOS draws a translucent backdrop under the menu bar, tinted from the system desktop picture. Choose a black desktop picture in System Settings › Wallpaper and the band disappears. PocketEarth never changes your system wallpaper; the ◐ menu has a shortcut to that setting.

THE ◐ MENU-BAR ITEM IS MISSING

Allow PocketEarth in System Settings › Menu Bar (“Allow in the Menu Bar”). Opening PocketEarth again from Launchpad or the Applications folder always brings back its window and its Settings.

TURNING THE GLOBE ON THE DESKTOP

Hold Option and drag on an empty part of the desktop. In a window, just drag.

ENERGY

The wallpaper pauses while windows cover it, when the screen is locked and while the Mac sleeps. Energy Saver (Settings, ⌘,) lowers the frame rate to 30 Hz while idle; in Low Power Mode it does so automatically.

OFFLINE

Without a network connection PocketEarth shows static NASA imagery; sunlight and the terminator are always computed from your Mac’s clock.

REQUIREMENTS

A Mac with Apple silicon, macOS 26 or later.
